Welder/Fitter

Welmar is looking for energetic, hardworking individuals to join our welding/fitting team. Full time day and/or afternoon shifts are available for experienced welders in our acoustic division with an immediate start date and opportunities for career advancement. Our manufacturing facility and office are located in the west end of Guelph.

Starting Hourly Wage: Based on experience

Welder’s responsibilities include:

  • Reading blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
  • Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on project requirements
  • Setting up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
  • Operating angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
  • Aligning components and clamp pieces
  • Welding components using MIG welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
  • Testing and inspecting welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
  • Maintaining equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety

Job Requirements:

  • Proven experience as welder/fitter
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures
  • Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, tape measure, calipers etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
  • Deftness and attention to detail, good communication skills
  • Proficient in English
  • Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is an asset
  • Professional Certification (exe. a CWB welding certificate) will be a plus

Sheet Metal Apprentice’s responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting senior sheet metal workers with their duties
  • Reading blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
  • Installation of HVAC systems and other sheet metal products for Residential, & I.C.I. construction on work site according to specifications and building codes
  • Maintaining equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
  • Operating metalworking machines to cut, punch, drill, shape or straighten sheet metal or use manual power tools when required
  • Measuring and marking sheet metal according to template
  • Inspecting products to ensure quality and conformity to specification
  • Grinding and buffing seams, joints, and rough surfaces
  • Fitting and joining sheet metal parts

Job Requirements:

  • No prior experience necessary, but must be prepared to complete a college-level training program associated with the sheet metal worker trade
  • Proficient in English
  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
  • Deftness and attention to detail, good communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as sheet metal worker
  • Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, tape measure, calipers etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Valid driver’s license is an asset
